The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of deliberately manipulating the new voters’ register in some polling station in favour of the ruling government.

Speaking at a news conference in Accra, Director of Elections of the party, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah said the EC has created what he describes as a mess in presenting to Ghanaians a haphazardly compiled Register describing it as a threat to Ghana’s democracy.

He said the party has evidence of mismatch of personal identification numbers, serial numbers with same photographs, outright removal of registrants among other.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Ashiaman, Ernest Norgbey has disputed a EC’s statement which described claims of his name being deliberately omitted from the Voters Register as false.

He said the omission of his name and 21,000 others are tactics employed by the EC to disenfranchise the people of Ashiaman as it is the stronghold of the NDC.

Mr. Norgbey told journalists in Accra that he is demanding answers from the EC as to how a large number of names could be missing from the electoral roll.

He insists that the EC swapped the register that was earlier shown to him before he got the chance to address the media on the matter the following day.

The Ashaiman MP said the EC sought to discredit him and belittle the severity of the error which occurred in the New Voters Register.
