The National Democratic Congress (NDC), Members of Parliament (MPs’) have asked government to immediately terminate the ECG/PDS Concession Agreement.

Addressing Journalists in Parliament on ‘terminate of ECG/PDS concession agreement immediately’, the former Deputy Minister of Energy and Petroleum, John Abdulai Jinapor, charged government to identify and prosecute those responsible for the fraudulent  guarantee as confirmed by the current Minister of Energy.

According to him, government must also ensure “full refund of all monies appropriated by PDS through this ‘fraudulent scheme and their collaborators.

Dissolve the current ECG Board and appoint a competent non-partisan board; and restructure the current Management of ECG and ensure they sign performance bonds with management for efficient supply of power to Ghanaians”.

The Minority  questioned why, President Akufo-Addo, will mismanage such a project by his predecessor which was designed to increase efficiency of ECG by supplying reliable power to Ghanaians; reduce financial leakages; and enhance profitability.

“Fellow Ghanaians the so-called Suspension of the Concession is only a smoke screen to cover up Government’s complicity in this whole scandal of gargantuan proportion.

As it stands, the concession in its current state will certainly not serve the interest of Ghana”.

Mr. Jinapor said, the concession is highly inimical to the aspirations of Ghana’s power sector goals and can tip the country into “Dumsor” because of choking debts not because IPPs lack capacity to produce power.

This concession, if letf to continue, has the potential of destabilizing the whole energy sector with very serious consequences including rising cost of power and crippling of power generation companies, not alleged, “therefore, this concession agreement must be terminated without any further delay”.
