NDC postpones Mahama’s induction as party mourns it’s former chairman

Induction ceremony of former President John Dramani Mahama as the leader and flag-bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, (NDC), has been postponed, following the death of a former National Chairman of the Party, Dr. Kwabena Adjei.

The induction ceremony which was scheduled for Wednesday, March 13, 2019, by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party has been rescheduled to a date, yet to be confirmed.

This comes after the NDC has declared three (3)days mourning period for the late Dr. Kwabena Adjei and has directed all party flags fly at half-mast.

Dr. Kwabena Adjei died in the early hours of today, Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at the Accra Regional Hospital after what is said to be a long illness.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former president John Dramani have both paid glowing tributes to Wayo Wayo, as the late Dr. Kwabena Adjei was popularly known.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo  in a statement said:”Sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Kwabena Adjei….He was a friend, whom I met in the 2nd parliament of the 4th Republic. He was then Majority Leader, and gave good leadership to the House. Man of strong opinions, he was a formidable opponent, and I enjoyed very much our interactions’’.

Former President John Mahama also in a tribute said: During my visit to him last Sunday at the Ridge Hospital, the doctors described his condition as stable. He was in good cheer and was positive he will join us in the political trenches soon’’.

Dr. Adjei, until his death , was a member of the Council of Elders of the party, a former member of parliament for Biakoye Constituency, a former PNDC Deputy Secretary of the Volta Region and former PNDC Deputy Secretary of Industries, Science & Technology.

He also served as a former Minister of Lands & Forestry, former Minister of Food & Agriculture and former Minister of Parliamentary Affairs in the 4th Republic of Ghana.
