The Minority Leader and NPP MP for Efutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged unity among New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants, warning that internal divisions weaken both the party and the country.

He made the call on Thursday during the signing of a peace pact by five aspirants ahead of the January 31 NPP presidential primaries, committing to a campaign based on ideas, vision, and unity.

“Whenever the NPP is united, it is formidable; whenever it is divided, it bleeds and Ghana pays the price,” Mr Afenyo-Markin said.

He stressed that unity is not just a slogan but a practice. “Unity is conduct. It is the discipline of disagreeing without destroying one another,” he added, calling on all aspirants to uphold decorum throughout the campaign.

Aspirants were also reminded of their responsibilities in shaping a mature and issue-based contest. “Before January 31, your responsibility, my dear aspirants, is to campaign on ideas, record, and vision—not on insults, threats, and division,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of genuine commitment to peace, Mr Afenyo-Markin warned that “a peace pact that ends with signatures, but not with changed behavior, is a betrayal of this moment and of Ghana,” urging aspirants to honour their pledge.

He concluded by calling for renewal within the party, saying, “Ghana needs the NPP back—not as a wounded, quarrelling organization, but as a renewed, united, and serious alternative.”
