The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, says that the Opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is fully ready to support the government in resolving the ongoing Bawku conflict.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday July 29, 2025, in Accra, Mr. Kodua, who has served as the CEO of the Youth Employment Agency under the NPP administration said the party is deeply concerned about the loss of lives in Bawku, especially those of innocent students and residents who have become victims due to their location or tribal background.
“The Bawku crisis is worrying. People are losing their lives every day not because of their actions, but simply because of where they live or which tribe they belong to,” he said.
He cautioned the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government against using propaganda and tribal sentiments in dealing with such sensitive issues. “Politics must not override matters of chieftaincy, ethnicity, or religion. These are areas where we must tread carefully,” he stressed.
Mr. Kodua also accused the NDC of exploiting the Bawku crisis for political gain during the 2024 elections, claiming the party made several tribal comments and promises aimed at winning votes.
Despite the accusations, he said the NPP remains committed to peace. “For the sake of our democracy and the lives involved, we are ever ready to help the government find a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict,” he said.
He urged the government to treat the matter as a national issue and invite all political parties, especially the NPP, to the discussion table. “Anytime the NDC government reaches out, the NPP is ready to respond and help.”
Mr. Kodua also praised the efforts of the Asantehene and other traditional leaders who are working hard to bring peace to Bawku but emphasized that their efforts will only succeed if political parties unite to support them.
