The Parliamentary Training Institute (PTI) has launched its third cohort of the Graduate Entry Training Programme to build the capacity of new staff of the Parliamentary Service.

The three-month training, running from August 4 to October 31, 2025, is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to meet the evolving demands of Parliament.

The programme has been developed in collaboration with the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), the Civil Service Training Centre, and the Government Secretariat School. It will cover key areas such as parliamentary administration, administrative writing skills, public administration, ethics, and office management.

Dean of the University of Ghana Business School, Professor Justice Bawole, emphasized the need for collaboration and inclusivity in parliamentary work.

“It is important that Parliament brings a lot of collaborators and creates a platform for inclusivity that ensures staff will cease to work in silos, department A or department B because your work will cut across. It’s also important that we engage society in a much more constructive manner, engaging academia, the media, and all stakeholders. We must recognize that not everyone is strong; there are weaker ones among us. The issue of diversity and inclusion is important, and we must be sensitive to that,” he stated.

Speaking to GBC News, the Deputy Clerk to Parliament, Dr. Mrs. Gloria Sarku Kumawu, said the training is a statutory requirement under Regulation 25(1) of the Parliamentary Service Staff Regulations, which underscores the service’s commitment to professional development.

“It reflects our commitment to building a competent, efficient and responsive workforce that can support the evolving demands of Parliament. I urge you all to make the most of this opportunity. Come with an open mind, be punctual, participate actively, and engage with your facilitators and peers. Remember, the habits and attitudes you cultivate during this training will shape your work ethics throughout your career. To whom much is given, much is expected,” she urged.

Head of the Parliamentary Training Institute, Dr. Ernest Darfour, outlined the training’s structure and focus areas.“Over the next 12 weeks, participants will undergo a structured training programme developed with our partners, including the University of Ghana Business School, the Civil Service Training Centre, and the Government Secretariat School. The modules have been carefully selected to provide both knowledge and practical exposure in parliamentary administration, administrative writing skills, public administration, ethics, and office management,” he explained.

Management of the Parliamentary Service reaffirmed its commitment to continuous capacity building as a means of strengthening parliamentary work and supporting Ghana’s democratic processes.
