The Police Administration says it will enforce safety measures ahead of the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer elections, slated for Saturday, February 23 at designated centres across the country.

The measures, police say, are aimed at maximising security before, during and after the elections nationwide.

A statement signed by Director General of Public Affairs, ACP Mr David Eklu, on Thursday said any unauthorised person found carrying offensive weapon be it gun, knives, machetes etc, within the parameters or close to voting and collation centres shall be apprehended and made to face the full rigours of the law.

It said no motorbike whether registered or unregistered shall be allowed anywhere close to a voting or collation centre.

“Police shall be in-charge of security. Any unauthorized security arrangement shall not be tolerated.”

It urged the NDC party executives, delegates, sympathisers and the general public to cooperate with the police to ensure successful and peaceful elections.
