President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate recall of Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, following allegations of voter inducement during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
In a statement issued by the Presidency on Friday, February 7, 2026, the President said the decision was taken after allegations of vote-buying emerged in the primaries, in which Mr. Baba Jamal was a candidate.
The President noted that although the allegations were made against several candidates who contested the primaries, Mr. Baba Jamal was the only serving public officer among them at the time.
President Mahama also acknowledged a public statement by the General Secretary of the NDC, confirming that the party has begun its own investigations into the matter.
According to the Presidency, the recall is not meant to interfere with the NDC’s internal processes. However, the President said the action was necessary to uphold the high standards of conduct expected of public officers and to prevent any perception of wrongdoing or conflict with the government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees.
The directive takes effect immediately. The Minister for Foreign Affairs has been instructed to carry out all administrative and diplomatic steps required to enforce the recall.
