The Minority in Parliament says it is not relenting in pursuing series of democratic actions untill it is convinced that there is a genuine effort to punish perpetrators of violence during the Ayawaso-West Wuogun by-elections.

According to the members, they have all toiled to nurture the democracy which has become a proud reference of the international community and they are determined to ensure that elements who seek to erode gains and turn Ghana into what it calls a ‘Banana  Republic’ are not allowed to succeed.

This was contained in a statement signed by Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu. The statement marks exactly one week since the Minority boycotted Parliamentary proceedings and marched to the Ghana Police Headquarters to demand justice following the State-sponsored terror that characterised the January 31 by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.

The statement notes that regardless of the Commission of Inquiry established by the President, it is their expectation that criminal investigations and prosecutions will be carried out without prejudice to the work of the Commission.

It will not also be part of any scheme to cover up or create immunity for the perpetrators.

On the day of the election, several masked men purportedly from National Security drove in Police armoured vehicles to a polling centre at La Bawaleshie and assaulted and shot at some supporters of Delali Brempong, the candidate of the NDC.

Six persons were critically injured and several others sustained minor injuries.

The NDC MP for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, was captured in a video circulated on social media being assaulted by one of the members of the supposed security force who are not members of the Ghana Police Service.
