The Chief Executive Director of the Center for Maritime Law and Security in Africa, Dr. Kamal Deen Ali, has warned that if government and other stakeholders do not reposition the fishing sector for recovery, the country may experience a serious decline in fisheries in the next 10 years.

He tells GBC’s Business News that as Ghana’s population keep increasing the catch levels have also decreased to 30 percent.

Dr. Ali said government needs an action plan to implement and enforce its fishing policies to save the current situation.

Meanwhile, government as part of efforts to revive the fishing industry has closed fishing activities for a period of one month.
