The Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Frank Annoh Dompreh, says the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has failed to deliver on its promises.
Speaking in an interview on GTV’s breakfast show on July 2, 2025, Mr. Annoh Dompreh criticized the NDC for what he described as a lack of seriousness in tackling key national issues, especially illegal mining (galamsey), rising food prices, tax policy, and poor financial management.
According to him, the government’s efforts to fight galamsey have been weak, with no clear strategy or results. He expressed disappointment that there was no dedicated budget line for land reclamation or the protection of water bodies in the recent Gold Board Bill, despite the ongoing environmental destruction.
“I drove from Anyinam to Kumasi recently, and you could clearly see the galamsey activities happening with impunity right beside water bodies. If they claim to be working on it, then let the water be clean. That’s how we’ll know there’s progress,” he stated.
On the economic front, Mr. Annoh Dompreh acknowledged that the exchange rate of the cedi against the dollar has improved slightly, but said it has had no real impact on prices of goods and services, which continue to rise. He argued that if the dollar is dropping, but market prices remain high, then the economy is not working for the people.
He also raised concerns about the failure of the government to release statutory payments to district assemblies despite their promises to release 80% of GetFund to the assemblies.
“We are in the seventh month of the year, and not even a quarter of the Common Fund has been paid to the assemblies. Meanwhile, taxes have been collected,” he stressed.
Mr. Dompreh further accused the government of breaking promises it made while in opposition, particularly its pledge to tackle economic challenges without increasing taxes. Instead, he noted, the NDC administration has introduced several new taxes, which contradicts their earlier position.
“I am one of those who believe that every country needs taxes to develop. But if you promise to do A and B without extra taxes, and you end up piling more taxes on the people, then you have failed to keep your word,” he said.
