US Speaker of Congress Addresses Ghana’s Parliament

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress, Patricia Nancy Pelosi, has reaffirmed her country’s commitment to partner Ghana.

Addressing Ghana’s Parliament in Accra today (July 31), Madam Nancy Pelosi said plans are ongoing to strengthen the bond between Ghana and the US, adding that the US is strongly committed to economic development and urged Ghana to come up with strategic economic plans.

She said one reason for the visit to Ghana was to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the slave trade and commended President Akufo-Addo for the ‘Year of Return” initiative.

Touching on Ghana’s education, she urged government to create educational opportunities for students especially women.

On health-care and environmental justice, Madam Pelosi encouraged Ghanaians to work together, not only to curb diseases and health issues, but fight for its eradication and also ensure everyone has access to good health-care.

Security-wise she described Ghana as peaceful and a shining star in Africa.

She praised Ghana for her advocacy in achieving Fundamental Human Rights.

Ending her address to Parliament, she thanked Ghanaians for their hospitality and noted that, together, the US and Ghana can build more.

The U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is in Ghana as the head of a Congressional delegation on a three-day visit.
