Supreme Court Justice Nominee, Mariama Owusu has defended the practice of appointments to the Apex court by Presidents.

Justice Owusu told the Appointments Committee that, the practice has not in any way compromised the independence of the Supreme Court and wants it maintained arguing that it has served the country well.

Justice Owusu said the Judiciary, as an arm of government should be more transparent in dealings with the public to erase the perception that it is corrupt.

Responding to a question by MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa on the Afrobarometer Survey that ranked the judiciary as the second most corrupt arm, Justice Owusu said openness to the public will help to erase such perceptions.
