Volta Diaspora Caucus organizes durbar to celebrate former President Rawlings

A grand durbar has been held at the Mabrouk Park in Accra to celebrate the achievements of Ghana’s late President, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.

It was organised by the Volta Diaspora Caucus and brought together members from all over the country.

The durbar was characterized by traditional dances and display of Ewe Culture.

Speaker after speaker eulogized the late President describing him as a colossus in Ghanaian politics.

Former Ghana’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Dan Abodakpi who is a maternal uncle of Mr. Rawlings said the late President sought to unite the country and the greatest tribute Ghanaians can pay to him now that he has passed on is to live peacefully and co-exist with one another.

The Chief of Aflao, Togbe Amenya Fitih in his tribute said Rawlings lived beyond his time describing him as a visionary leader who emerged when all hope was lost.

The Osie of Avatime, Togbe Adza Tekpor said like he promised, Mr.  Rawlings ensured that the 31st December Revolution was the last Coup d’etat the country saw.

National Coordinator of the Volta Diaspora Caucus, Aku Dzifa Attivor spelt out the aims and objectives of the Movement saying it is meant to bring all Voltarian throughout the country together under one umbrella.

She said for the dexterity of former President Rawlings, his people installed him a chief with the stool name Togbi Avaklasu.
