Turnout was very high in the Electoral Commission’s (EC) mop up voter registration in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The exercise which began Saturday, August 8 was to offer opportunity to applicants who were not registered during the mass registration which ended on Thursday, August 6.

GBC’s Michael Teye Amartey reports that at Abuakwa North and South and New Juaben South Municipal offices of the EC, all the safety protocols concerning the COVID-19 were observed.

Only NPP and NDC party agents were spotted at the various centres monitoring the proceedings. Security personnel were also there to ensure peaceful atmosphere.

At new Juaben South, applicants were seen in a long queue waiting for their turn to go through the process.

As at the time of filing this report, more than 200 applicants went through the process.

According to the Municipal Officer of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Kofi Owusu Asante, they encountered few challenge issues adding that the process went on peacefully.

At the Abuakwa South centre, 38 applicants were registered. The Registration Officer, Mr. Adu Ofori Denis attributed the low turnout to the mass applicants who were registered during the mass registration exercise.

He also raised concern of challenge issue by the NDC party agents. The story was not different at Abuakwa North where 30 applicants were captured into the voter roll as at the time of filing this report.
