President John Dramani Mahama during the celebration of Kenya’s 62nd Jamhuri Day, reaffirmed the deep, enduring friendship between Ghana and Kenya. Honoring shared independence struggles President Mahama called for continued Pan-African solidarity across the continent and the diaspora.
In a heartfelt address, He paid tribute to the historic bond between Ghana’s Kwame Nkrumah and Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta. “The friendship between our independence leaders, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Kwame Nkrumah, has become an enduring flame that has continued to bind our two nations”, He declared.
According to President Mahama, the people of Ghana are in solidarity with their brothers and sisters in Kenya,” President Mahama stated.
“We pay respect to the memory of our forebears who fought for our freedom and we do not take their sacrifice for granted, after they have won us political independence, it is the responsibility of our current generation of African leadership to win economic independence and prosperity for our own people”.
He praised Kenya’s international stature and extended personal condolences for the passing of Raila Odinga. “Kenya continues to be a respected member of the African Union and other international bodies,” President Mahama noted. “Accept my personal condolence and the sympathy of all Ghanaians for the passing of a great statesman, Mzee Raila Odinga. May God grant him peaceful rest.”
