The Ghana Police Service has announced temporary road closures in Accra on Friday, 6 March 2026, ahead of the 69th Independence Anniversary Celebration at the Jubilee House.
The affected roads include Liberation Road from Opeibea Intersection to the Central Business District, Independence Avenue at the Ako Adjei By-pass, and Jawaharlal Nehru Road. Access will be restored once the event concludes.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, including Kaokudi Road via Kanda Highway to Barnes Road or Giffard Road towards Osu, and Kanda Highway to Ring Road Central for Independence Avenue commuters. Parking along affected roads will not be permitted, and security and dignitary vehicles will be screened before access.
Traffic Police officers will be deployed at diversion points and designated car parks, while towing vehicles will remove abandoned or improperly parked cars. The police urged residents to plan their journeys ahead and cooperate with officers to ensure smooth traffic management.
Ghana’s Independence Day, first celebrated on 6 March 1957, marks the nation’s liberation from British colonial rule and is a symbol of national pride and unity. This year’s 69th anniversary continues the tradition of honoring the country’s history and achievements while ensuring public safety during commemorative events.
