Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams has pledged his office’s commitment to partner with sports journalists to foster a productive and sustainable sports ecosystem in Ghana.
Speaking during a key meeting with the leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Adams emphasized the vital role of the media in driving sports development.
Adams outlined specific areas of focus, including capacity building for sports journalists and ensuring accountability in the management of sports resources.
This initiative aims to address longstanding challenges in Ghana’s sports infrastructure and talent nurturing, positioning media as a cornerstone for progress.
The SWAG leadership responded positively, endorsing a stronger, more collaborative partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MoSR).
SWAG President, whose endorsement highlighted the meeting’s outcomes, stressed that this alliance would amplify media’s influence in policy advocacy and public awareness.
This development comes at a critical time for Ghanaian sports, with recent calls for reform following underwhelming performances in international events like the AFCON.
Stakeholders view the minister’s proactive stance as a potential game-changer, bridging the gap between government, media, and athletes.
Adams assured that joint programs, including training workshops and investigative journalism support, would roll out soon.
