Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has pledged to publicly disclose the entire budget for the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emphasizing the government’s commitment to transparency amid past criticisms. Ghana is gearing up for its fifth appearance at the global showpiece, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico this summer.

Adams, the MP for Buem constituency, made the assurance during an interview on Asempa FM, building on his earlier revelations about the costs of each World Cup qualifier match despite pushback from some football stakeholders.

“We will make the World Cup budget public, nothing will be hidden,” Adams stated firmly.

He stressed that the initiative is not about financial gain but ensuring Ghana receives top-tier support for its national team. “The government does not intend to profit; this is about giving Ghana what it deserves,” the minister added, signaling a shift toward greater accountability in sports funding.

The budget transparency extends to supporter logistics, with funds raised through the Sports Fund dictating how many fans can travel to cheer the Black Stars.

“The funds we will raise will determine the number of fans we take to the World Cup,” Adams explained. This fan-funding model aims to boost national morale while managing costs effectively.

Ghana finds itself in Group L, promising thrilling encounters against strong opponents. The Black Stars will kick off their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, followed by a high-stakes clash with England in Boston, before wrapping up the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia. Football fans across Ghana are buzzing with anticipation for what could be a historic run.

Adams’ assurances come at a pivotal time as the nation rallies behind its squad. With the tournament just months away, the promise of open budgeting could restore public trust and unite supporters in backing the Black Stars’ quest for glory on the world stage.
