Private legal practitioner Moses Foh-Amoaning has called on President John Dramani Mahama to support and assent to the controversial anti-LGBTQI+ bill, cautioning him against what he describes as foreign influence and financial pressure.
Speaking on Onua FM on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Foh-Amoaning said President Mahama should demonstrate gratitude to God for his return to office by ensuring the passage of the bill.
According to him, the President frequently invoked God’s name during the election campaign, and the most appropriate way to give thanks would be to sign the bill into law.
“The best form of thanksgiving is passing the anti-LGBTQI+ bill. Mr. President, support this and let us see it passed. Do not follow foreign influence and their money,” Foh-Amoaning stated.
He further claimed that President Mahama had earlier pledged to assent to the bill upon assuming office but noted that one year has passed without that promise being fulfilled.
Foh-Amoaning also argued that the passage of the bill would bring divine blessings to the country, asserting that Ghana would experience unprecedented prosperity once the legislation is enacted.
His comments have reignited public debate over the anti-LGBTQI+ bill, which has attracted significant local and international attention, with supporters citing cultural and religious values, while critics raise concerns about human rights and freedoms.
The renewed discussion comes amid a separate controversy surrounding the 2024/2025 Physical Education manual for secondary school teachers, which defined gender identity as a deeply felt internal experience that may not correspond with sex assigned at birth and recognised gender diversity beyond the male-female binary.
Following public backlash, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) withdrew the manual and issued a clarification, stating that the content had been comprehensively reviewed to align with Ghanaian values.
In a statement dated January 13, 2026, NaCCA announced that a revised version of the manual, consistent with national values and biological understanding, has since been released.
