Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu has expressed strong opposition to LGBT+ practices in Ghana, citing faith and cultural values. He cited a line in the national pledge, “So help me God” stating that Ghana is a Christian nation and must not indulge in such practices.
“For us as Ghanaians, coming from the angle of our faith and our culture, lgbtq+ is something to be condemned”, he noted.
Speaking on the GTV breakfast show today, he stressed that LGBTQ+ threatens the survival of the human family and urged politicians to reconsider their stance.
Sheikh Shaibu further argued that marriage is a union between men and women, not a partnership. He stated the anti-lgbtq+ bill is crucial for protecting Ghanaian family values. President John Dramani Mahama has faced pressure to prioritize the bill, despite describing LGBTQ+ issues as “highly emotive and sensitive” but not a top priority.
