Three lives lost, 30 injured in Mampong Abuontem head-on collision

A tragic collision at Mampong Abuontem on Thursday, December 4, 2025, resulted in 3 fatalities and 30 injuries. 26 victims were treated and discharged, while 4 remain in critical condition at the Mampong Government Hospital.

The Mampong Fire Station received the emergency call at 17:38 hours, prompting a swift response from a rescue team led by LFM Emmanuel Kwami. All injured occupants including 26 students, 3 staff members, and the bus driver, had been transported by ambulance before the team arrived.

2 additional occupants of the Opel Astra later died after rescue, while the driver was extricated deceased and handed over to the Police.

The accident involved a Toyota Coaster minibus (GV 1720-20) from Ejura Agric College and an Opel Astra (AS 3838 W), which was completely mangled. The coaster minibus suffered damages to the windscreen, front bumper and fenders.

Eyewitness accounts indicate the Astra lost control on a curve and veered into the path of the oncoming minibus, leading to a catastrophic head-on crash.

The crew cleared the debris to restore the smooth flow of traffic.

Motorists are urged to maintain their vehicles, avoid overtaking on curves, and strictly observe road safety precautions to prevent avoidable tragedies.
