Tuesday 21st August 2018 Declared As Public Holiday

The Ministry for the Interior has said that Tuesday,21st August, 2018 which marks the celebration of Eid ul-Adha festival, is a statutory public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.

This was contained in a statement by the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, on Wednesday 15th August 2018.

The Eidul-Adha festival is also known as the feast of sacrifice.

It is celebrated annually by Muslims to mark Prophet Abraham’s intended sacrifice of his son in fulfillment of a command from God.

The festival coincides with the Hajj activities currently ongoing in Saudi Arabia.

The general public is hereby informed that Tuesday, 2 1st August, 2018 which marks the celebration of EIDUL-ADHA, is a statutory public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.
