Twenty three US volunteers commissioned for Ghana service

Twenty three (23) US Peace Corps Volunteers have been sworn in to serve Ghana,  for the next two years.

Speaking at the swearing in ceremony,  the  Chargé D’Affairs at the US Embassy,  Christopher Lamora, charged the volunteers to see themselves as change agents.

He said the volunteers must find new approaches that can make communities they will serve a better one.

The Ghana-US Peace Corps’ relationship dates back to 1961, when President John F. Kennedy sent the very first 52 Peace Corps volunteers to Ghana.

The volunteers serve in areas such education, health, environment and agriculture.

Mr. Lamora, noted the invaluable contribution of the program to Ghana.

He said the volunteers will serve as grassroots ambassadors and asked them to be committed to serve interest of both countries.

The Deputy Minister for Education Gifty Twum Ampofo, noted work of the volunteers over the years has impacted lives of many Ghanaians.

She commended the peace Corps  for their selflessness which she said continues to deepen the Ghana-US relationship.

Speaking through an interpreter a volunteer Alice Dahn, was happy about the opportunity to serve Ghana.

The volunteers were advised to rise above challenges they may encounter to while in serving Ghana.
