Members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT, in the Upper West Region, have raised red flag over deductions from their salaries by the Ghana Education Service for an SIC Life Insurance policy.

The Association registered its displeasure about the manner Management of GES is handling the GES/SIC Life policy deductions without the consent of its members.

In a statement, the Regional Chairman of the Association, Kuule Ivon said management of GES effected the deductions in June last year from the salaries of all GES workers without consulting GNAT members.

It further explained that the deductions contravened section 69 (2) b and 70 of the labour Act 2003(ACT 651).

This caused agitations from members because the GES failed to sensitize them before implementing the policy. The statement said exit forms were later made available for members to fill if they so wish.

This did not go down well with members in the region since they did not fill the forms to join the policy. The statement said members took pains to fill the exit forms.

Despite the Association’s agitations the policy deductions of 10 Ghana Cedis still appeared on the payslips of members last month.
