Convener of Pressure Group, Arise Ghana, Bernard Mornah has lamented on the United States (US) handling of the Ken Ofori-Atta case, suggesting the US is protecting the former Ghanaian Finance Minister from facing justice.

“It is as if the United States is giving him protection to run away from Justice that’s why we decided to picket at the Embassy of the United States to demand the return of Ken Ofori Atta to come and answer questions of interest”, he noted.

Speaking on the GTV’s breakfast show, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Mornah stated that, after his group announced plans to picket at the US Embassy in Ghana, it was announced by his lawyers that, Ofori-Atta was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying his visa.

Mornah questioned why someone wanted for crimes against Ghana’s economy would seek US residency, implying the US might be enabling corrupt officials to escape accountability.

“Someone who is wanted for crimes against our economy, crimes against humanity generally, suddenly wants to apply virtually for asylum so that he will run away from Justice. If the US runs it, it means they are supporting public officials to steal, loot, mismanage and become corrupt then run to the US,” Mornah reiterated, calling this “a very terrible, dangerous way to treat nations”.

His comments fall on the back of Ken Ofori Atta having being detained in ICE detention center despite calls by the government of Ghana for his return.
