The Western Regional House of Chiefs has applauded Dr. Samuel Amo Tobbin, Executive Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies and former Governing Council Chairman of Takoradi Technical University (TTU), for his extraordinary contribution to sports and education through the redevelopment of the University’s park into a modern Sports Complex.
The commendation was given by the President of the House, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, during a visit to inspect the ongoing project. He was accompanied by the Vice President, Nana Akwasi Agyemang IX, Omanhene of Lower Dixcove, and Tetrete Okuamoa Sekyim II, Omanhene of Wassa Amenfi.

Nana Nketsia praised Dr. Tobbin for his vision and generosity, describing the initiative as a demonstration of true service to humanity.
“Being members of the House of Chiefs, we would like to tell former Council Chairman, Dr. Samuel Amo Tobbin, that we are very proud of him. This is a very good example which inspires all of us, and from the Western Region, we should consider honoring him for this project, which was done wholeheartedly,” Nana Nketsia said.
He further urged other well-meaning individuals and institutions to emulate Dr. Tobbin’s example by investing in projects that advance education and community development.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor-elect of TTU, Ing. Prof. Ebenezer Boakye, expressed appreciation to the House of Chiefs for their support and also extended gratitude to Dr. Tobbin, stressing that the facility will benefit both the University and the wider Western Region.
Also present was Mr. Joseph Danso, Chairman of the University’s Sports and Recreation Committee, who underscored the importance of the project to TTU’s growth. Committee member Mr. Michael Appiah revealed that although the idea of a modern stadium was first conceived in 2018, it was only realized through Dr. Tobbin’s intervention and commitment during his tenure as Governing Council Chairman.
Providing a progress update, Quantity Surveyor Mr. Kofi Ampoful disclosed that the first phase of the project—featuring a football pitch, a 1,500-seater stand, an athletics track, changing rooms, and shops—began on 25th November 2022 and is expected to be handed over by the end of August 2025.
He added that a second phase is also planned, which will include the construction of a tennis court, basketball court, and volleyball court, further boosting sports infrastructure in the region.
