Eastern Region: VIVO Energy supports fight against coronavirus

VIVO Energy, a subsidiary of Shell Company has mounted four water tanks fitted with foot operated hand washing machines with flowing water system at three locations in Koforidua.

The areas are the Koforidua Central Market, Juaben Serwah Market and the Kumasi Station at Koforidua in the Eastern Region to fight the spread of the coronavirus.

The company also donated 10 boxes of liquid soap, 10 packets of tissue papers and 300 face masks all valued at GhC60,000.00 to support the prevention of the spread of the coronavirus in the Eastern Region.

Speaking at the commissioning of the facilities at the Koforidua Central Market and later at the Kumasi Station at Koforidua, Mr. Isaac Appaw-Gyesi, the New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive reminded the women at the market that the coronavirus was real and there was no cure and urged them to adopt preventive measures such as hand washing and wearing of face masks.

He therefore called on the market women and others at the market to take advantage of the facility provided by VIVO Energy to regularly wash their hands and ensure that people who come to the market to buy from them wash their hands.

At the Kumasi Station, Mr Appaw-Gyesi charged the leadership of the various driver unions at the station to ensure that water was available at all times to enable drivers, passengers and traders at the station get water to regularly wash their hands to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the Eastern Region.

Mr Paul Mends, Eastern Regional Manager of VIVO Energy said there were many people who were doubting the presence of the coronavirus and explained that the best way was to stay home amidst the crisis.

He therefore called on all to abide by all the health protocols to help prevent the spread of the disease.

Mr Mends said the first priority of VIVO Energy in whatever they do was safety hence the decision to provide hand washing facilities at public places throughout the country to support the fight against the coronavirus.

He said the company had provided the hand washing facilities in other regions of the country and it was their turn.

Nana Yaa Bonsu, Queenmother of the Koforidua Central Market on behalf of the market women thanked VIVO Energy and the New Juaben Municipal Assembly for the support and assured that the market women would take good care of the facility.
