Ashanti Region clinched their second KGL U-17 Inter-Regional Championship title after a resilient 2–1 victory over defending champions Western Region in the final at the McDan Teshie Sports Complex on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Team Ashanti Region took control early in the match, scoring two goals before halftime to establish a strong lead. Western Region responded in the second half, with Ramzy Duah reducing the deficit, but disciplined defence from Ashanti Region held firm to secure the win and dethrone the reigning champions.
This triumph marks Ashanti’s second championship in Ghana’s premier youth tournament, building on their first title win in 2023 after a penalty shootout victory over Brong Ahafo. The latest success highlights Ashanti’s growing reputation as a powerhouse in youth football development.
Ashanti Region’s journey to the title featured resilience and consistent performance. After finishing second in Group B behind Central Region, they defeated Greater Accra in the semifinals before delivering a strong and clinical display in the final to cap a remarkable nine-day campaign.
During the closing ceremony, standout players received special awards, as medals and the trophy were presented by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, KGL Foundation Chief Executive Elliot Dadey, and National Juvenile Committee Chairman Joe Salam Abubakar.
Now in its fifth edition, the KGL U-17 Championship has become a key platform for nurturing emerging talent, supported by a $1 million KGL Foundation partnership and featuring 12 teams from across Ghana.
