Newly crowned women’s footballer of the year, Doris Boaduwaa, delivered a stellar performance with a hat-trick that led Ghana to a 3-1 comeback victory over Malawi in a friendly match on Saturday, June 21, 2025. The match, held at the Ziaida Complex, served as a vital warm-up ahead of the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Scorchers, Malawi’s national team, took an early lead thanks to Tendai Sani, who scored after just fifteen minutes, putting Ghana on the back foot. Despite the early setback, the Black Queens quickly regrouped and responded strongly. Their efforts paid off when Boaduwaa scored from the penalty spot eight minutes later after a handball in the box, leveling the score and boosting Ghana’s confidence.

Just after the hour mark, Boaduwaa put Ghana ahead with another impressive strike, showcasing her scoring prowess and determination. Her second goal proved to be the decisive moment of the match, demonstrating her importance to the team’s attacking line. With her confidence soaring, Boaduwaa secured her hat-trick nine minutes before full-time by easily slotting the ball into an open net after Malawi’s goalkeeper failed to clear a cross.
The victory comes at a crucial time as Ghana prepares for their Group C opener in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for July 7, 2025. The Black Queens will face South Africa at Honor Stadium in Oujda, with subsequent matches against Mali on July 11 and Tanzania on July 14, in Berkane. The tournament, set to run from July 5 to 26, will be hosted across Morocco.
