The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken a significant step toward revitalising youth football in the country with the appointment of Alhaji Baba Osman Daney as chairman of its newly established U16 Boys Management Committee.
Alhaji Daney, well known in both football and public administration circles, is the president of Division One League side Sankara Nationals FC and currently serves as the director of finance at the National Youth Authority. The GFA believes his blend of football passion and administrative experience positions him well to lead efforts to nurture Ghana’s next generation of football stars.
Reacting to his appointment in an interview with sports anchor Maltiti Sayida Sadick on GTV Breakfast Sports, Alhaji Daney expressed his gratitude.
“I am honoured and blessed. I am most grateful to the president of the Ghana Football Association for the confidence reposed in me. I will work with the team to reposition the young players for success and also focus on talent identification and development, drawing on my background in managing and owning sports clubs in Ghana,” he said.
Supporting him in this new role is Gabriel Godwin Kwao, vice-chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association, who will serve as vice-chairman of the committee.
The committee also includes other notable figures in the Ghanaian football community:
- Masawudu Ahmed, president of Ebony FC
- Kweku Sagoe, head of marketing at Nsuopon Fidelity FC
- Siaka Musah, president of Dormaa Unity FC
Together, the committee is tasked with scouting young talent, managing development programmes, and ensuring the smooth organisation of U16 competitions across the country.
This initiative aligns with the GFA’s long-term vision of strengthening youth football structures and creating a clear pathway from grassroots to the national teams. With a strong team now in place, hopes are high that the next Abedi Pele, Asamoah Gyan, or Mohammed Kudus will be discovered and developed through this U16 platform.
For football fans and stakeholders alike, this marks an exciting new chapter in Ghana’s football development story.
