The 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament delivered another exciting contest on Sunday, August 24, as Bibiani GoldStars edged Heart of Lions 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate at the University of Ghana Stadium. The match was decided in a tense shootout, highlighting the increasing competitiveness of this pre-season event.
Heart of Lions started the match with an aggressive approach, controlling possession and continuously pressing the GoldStars into defensive positions. Their pressure was rewarded in the 37th minute when Ali Fawzi scored, giving the Kpando-based side a deserved lead heading into halftime.
After the break, GoldStars transformed their game, heightening their intensity and matching the Lions’ creativity on the field. As the clock ticked down, striker Sampson Eduku found a crucial equalizer in the 89th minute, forcing the match into a penalty shootout and keeping the Miners’ hopes alive.
In the shootout, Bibiani GoldStars displayed remarkable composure, successfully converting four of their penalties. Heart of Lions, however, faltered twice from the spot, which ultimately handed the Miners the win and extended their tournament points to seven, placing them in a commanding position for the title.
