The President of Ghana Athletics, Bawah Fuseini, is advocating for increased investment in athletes, aiming to provide them with the essentials they need to succeed, including massages, accommodation, shelter, sneakers, and more.

Speaking with Isaac Tetteh on The Files (GTV Sports+), he emphasized, “This is at the national level, so we must ensure that their accommodation, food, shelter, and everything else are made easier for them. This will help reduce stress and enable them to perform better.”

He initially proposed a budget of $1 million from the Ministry but later revised the estimate to $1.2 million to adequately support athletes, coaches, and administrators.

“It’s not just about athletes; part of the funding will be used to develop coaches, administrators, training structures, and to build the overall capacity of the athletes, all of which are essential in developing top-performing athletes,” he explained.

President Fuseini revealed that a detailed document outlining the athletes’ needs has been submitted to the Ministry for support.

He also noted plans to bring in experienced coaches from both Ghana and abroad to train young athletes.

“I spoke to two coaches yesterday from the university, and I’ve also contacted other coaches in the USA to help train these athletes,” he emphasized.

President Fuseini commended Sports Minister Kofi Adams for acknowledging their efforts and engaging with athletes to address their needs. He believes that with proper investment, Ghana will win more medals in future competitions.
