Ghana’s Black Satellites claimed the bronze medal at the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Boys Cup after a decisive 2-0 victory over Niger in the third-place playoff held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The tournament, which began earlier this month at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, concludes today with the final and bronze medal matches.

Ghana’s youth team capped their spirited campaign with this win on home soil, showcasing resilience and talent throughout the competition.

The bronze medal match was a tightly contested encounter between the host nation and Niger, with both sides determined to finish the tournament on a high note. Ultimately, Ghana’s technical proficiency and determination proved pivotal.

The Black Satellites had earlier secured their spot in this playoff after a narrow 2-1 semi-final loss to defending champions Ivory Coast.

Ghana’s journey in the tournament included a dramatic group stage performance, where they finished second in Group A behind Nigeria on goal difference after an unbeaten run featuring a crucial victory against Benin while playing with ten men.

The team displayed quality and grit, notably during a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Ivory Coast in the semifinals that dashed their hopes of reaching the final. Key players such as Bless Ege, who scored vital goals during the tournament, and Benjamin Tsivanyo, who scored early in the semifinal, were instrumental throughout the campaign.

Looking ahead, defending champions Ivory Coast will face Nigeria in the final at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. Both teams are vying to claim the prestigious WAFU Zone B U20 Boys Cup, with Ivory Coast seeking to defend their title and Nigeria aiming to seize the crown.

The Black Satellites will build on their bronze finish as they continue to develop young talents for future international competitions.

As the WAFU Zone B U20 Boys Cup draws to a close, Ghana can take pride in the strong showing of their youth team.
