In a recent interview on GTV Breakfast Show, German-based sports scientist Emmanuel Nii Akporh Adjei highlighted the importance of quality education as the motivation behind his Bike2myroots project. With a background in sports and exercise science, Adjei believes education is the foundation upon which a nation can build a bright future.

Speaking to host Maltiti Sayida Sadick, Adjei recounted how he embarked on a remarkable journey, cycling from Germany to Ghana over 10,000 kilometres, starting in June 2025, to draw attention to the need for educational equity. He stressed that education is not just about acquiring knowledge but a light that provides opportunities and freedom.

Through his Bike2myroots initiative, he has raised about $20,000, riding across 16 countries from Europe through Africa, conquering deserts and rough terrains. His goal is to make a social impact and give back to society. He also shared how his drone was seized in Mauritania and urged African leaders to make cross-border movement within the continent easier.

Partnership and scholarship

Adjei partnered with Eduspots, a Germany-based NGO, to support his campaign. His experience in Germany, where education, health, and sanitation are prioritized, inspired him to establish a scholarship fund in his late father’s name for tertiary students.

Future plans

Adjei’s vision extends beyond education. He also aims to promote cycling among women, as well as advocate for improved health and sanitation. His passion for creating change is evident in his dedication to the cause, which he links to his upbringing in the Teshie community in Accra.

He called on the younger generation to take on challenges, raise awareness, and help solve problems in their communities.
