Gremio forward Francis Amuzu has openly declared his deep wish to play for Ghana’s Black Stars as the national team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup set in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Born in Ghana before relocating to Belgium at the age of two, Amuzu carries a rich football legacy as the son of former Ghanaian player Theophilous Amuzu, who also had a career in Belgium.

Inspired by his father’s journey, the 24-year-old winger began playing football with a strong connection to his Ghanaian roots. “My father is an ex-footballer. He played in Ghana before moving to Belgium when he got a contract there.

I started to play football since I got the blood from my father,” Amuzu told Brazilian journalist Rodrigo Oliviera during an interview in Porto Alegre.

Although Amuzu has represented Belgium at U19 and U21 levels, he maintains a heartfelt connection to Ghana.

“Yes, Ghana remains my first country. I have been there and also have some contacts with the family. So, I love Ghana. I am a Ghanaian since I was born there,” he said, highlighting his strong national identity.

Since joining Brazilian giants Gremio this season, Amuzu has made an impressive start with two goals and one assist in 14 matches. His performances have caught the eye, and he hopes his form will lead to a call-up from Ghana coach Otto Addo.

“If Ghana comes, for sure, I will go. I hope they can invite me but for now, my concentration is at Gremio, to try and perform well in every game,” he stated.
