Ankara, Türkiye — 18th August 2025
Hon. Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation of the Republic of Ghana, has held a strategic meeting with Mr. Abdullah Eren, President of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), at the agency’s headquarters on August 18, 2025 in Ankara.
The meeting reviewed TİKA’s impact projects in Ghana since its establishment in 2012, including renovation of schools, provision of hospital equipment, agricultural support, and vocational training programmes. These initiatives are aligned with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, focusing on food security, capacity building, and skills development.
Mr. Eren reaffirmed TİKA’s commitment to Ghana, noting the country’s positive business climate, security, and economic stability as strong indicators for continued investment. He emphasised TİKA’s readiness to expand support into youth and sports-related programmes in recognition of the power of sports as a driver of development.
Hon. Adams extended the Government of Ghana’s appreciation to TİKA, stating: “These are not just projects; they are initiatives that touch lives directly and contribute to building the human capital we need for growth. Ghana values this partnership deeply.”
The Minister outlined priority areas where Ghana seeks deeper collaboration, including:
- Sports management and sports medicine.
- Development of community parks and sports academies to nurture Ghana’s vast talent pool.
- Capacity-building programmes to complement education, agriculture, and vocational training.
TİKA welcomed these proposals and encouraged the Ministry to submit a formal list of areas for immediate technical and financial cooperation.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to building on Ghana–Türkiye relations, which date back to 1958, and to expanding TİKA’s impact across education, agriculture, health, and sports development.
