Asante Kotoko’s spirited comeback victory over archrivals Accra Hearts of Oak in the 2025 President’s Cup has earned the team a GH¢10,000 cash reward from the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.
The thrilling 2-1 win, secured at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, July 6, showcased the Porcupine Warriors’ determination and fighting spirit in one of Ghana’s most fiercely contested football rivalries.
After falling behind in the first half due to a defensive error that Hearts of Oak capitalized on, Kotoko mounted an impressive resurgence in the second half. Two well-timed goals turned the tide, sealing a dramatic victory that delighted their fans and underscored the team’s resolve to dominate domestically.
The match lived up to its reputation as Ghana’s biggest club rivalry, delivering excitement and tension until the final whistle.
Recognizing their impressive performance, Minister Kofi Adams personally visited the Kotoko camp after the match to present the cash reward. In a lighthearted moment, he remarked, “I have also given you, for your drive back, I’m giving you GHC 10,000. When you get there you can buy some water.”
This gesture was warmly received by the players and coaching staff, symbolizing government support for their efforts.
Beyond the immediate reward, Kofi Adams expressed strong encouragement for Kotoko’s ambitions on the continental stage.
“Congratulations, our target is the continental level. We will be there to support. We will do everything, we will mobilize, personally and at the national level to do whatever it takes so that you can win,” he affirmed.
