Legon Cities have parted ways with head coach Yaw Acheampong as the team battles against relegation in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season. Acheampong’s dismissal comes after a run of poor results, including a 1-0 loss to Basake Holy Stars, which sealed his fate. The former Aduana Stars coach was brought in as a risk in January, but his experience failed to stabilize the team.

With just five games left in the season, Legon Cities have appointed Tijani Abdul Rahim to take charge and guide the team to safety. Abdul Rahim, a former assistant to Maxwell Konadu and one-time head coach of Young Apostles, brings a wealth of experience to the role. His appointment comes as the club intensifies its fight against relegation, currently occupying the 17th spot with 25 points after 29 games.

Acheampong’s tenure at Legon Cities was marked by a series of disappointing performances, which ultimately led to his departure. This marks the second time Acheampong has been sacked this season, having previously been let go by Aduana Stars at the beginning of the campaign. Despite his experience, Acheampong was unable to replicate success at Legon Cities.

Legon Cities face some difficult tasks ahead, with matches against Bechem United, Nations FC, Aduana Stars, Hearts of Oak, and Dreams FC. The team will need to pull off a miracle to escape relegation, and Abdul Rahim’s task will be to guide the team to safety. The club’s fate hangs in the balance, and the next few weeks will be crucial in determining their future.
