World No. 4 Coco Gauff delivered a stellar performance to beat Belinda Bencic 6-4 6-2 in the Madrid Open round-of-16.
The American’s serve, which has been a concern in recent months, was a strength in this match, with Gauff winning 85% of points behind her first serve and 65% of her second serve points. She also limited her errors, committing only one double fault.
Gauff’s dominance on clay was evident as she broke Bencic twice in the second set, taking control of the match. After blowing an early break in the first set, Gauff regrouped and broke Bencic again in the 10th game to take the opener.

The No. 4 seed then built on her momentum, registering two more breaks in the second set to seal a convincing win.
World No. 7 Mirra Andreeva also advanced to the quarterfinals, ousting Yulia Starodubtseva 6-1 6-4. Andreeva’s performance demonstrated her growing confidence and skill on the court.
Gauff’s win over Bencic is likely to boost her confidence ahead of the quarterfinals. The American’s impressive serve and dominant display on court suggest she is in good form, and she will look to build on this momentum in the next round.
Gauff’s next match will be a crucial test of her form and determination. With her serve firing on all cylinders, she will be looking to continue her strong run in the Madrid Open and make a deep push in the tournament.
