Ghana’s Police Ladies have confirmed their place in the semi-finals of the ongoing WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers after a convincing 3-1 victory over ASKO. The win secured them second place in Group B, advancing Yussif Basigi’s squad to the next round of the tournament.
The match got off to a flying start for Police Ladies, with Deborah Afriyie opening the scoring just eight minutes in by capitalizing on a defensive error from the Togolese side. Shortly after, in the 13th minute, Sophia Agyakwaa delivered a stunning long-range strike, doubling the team’s advantage and setting the tone for the rest of the encounter.
ASKO managed to pull a goal back from the penalty spot after a foul inside the 18-yard box, briefly raising hopes for a comeback. However, Police Ladies quickly restored their two-goal lead thanks to Deborah’s second goal, an impressive overhead kick from close range, sealing the 3-1 victory.
The outcome, combined with Bayelsa Queens’ win against Sam Nelly, ensured Police Ladies progressed to the semifinals of the competition. Their next challenge will be the host team, ASEC Mimosas, with the semi-final clash scheduled for Tuesday, September 2nd.
This win marks an important stride for Police Ladies as they continue their quest for regional dominance, showcasing strong offensive and defensive qualities under the guidance of coach Yussif Basigi.
