President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, for securing qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The message was shared on Sunday, October 12, 2025, following the team’s narrow 1-0 victory over Comoros, which sealed their place in the tournament.
The crucial match, played at the Accra Sports Stadium as part of the matchday 10 qualifiers, saw the Black Stars earn a deserved win over their Comoros counterparts. This victory marked another important milestone for Ghana on its journey to the global football stage.
The decisive goal came in the second half when Mohammed Kudus tapped in from close range to give Ghana the lead. This triumph propelled Ghana to the top of Group I with 25 points, having drawn just once throughout the qualifiers.
President Mahama took to his official Facebook page to commend the team’s achievement, writing, “Congratulations to the senior national team, the #BlackStars. Another qualification to the World Cup” #ResettlingGhana. His message reflected the pride of a nation eager to support its team.
Ghana’s qualification marks their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup after missing the 2018 tournament in Russia. The Black Stars, quarterfinalists in the 2010 World Cup, now prepare for the 2026 competition to be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada, with final details on their group yet to be confirmed.
