The Concerned Referees and Match Commissioners of Ghana (CRAMCOG) have announced an immediate suspension of their services for the remainder of the Ghana Premier League season, citing the non-payment of allowances for over 21 weeks.

In a letter addressed to the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), CRAMCOG stated that the decision, though difficult, had become necessary due to the prolonged failure to meet their financial entitlements. They made it clear that they will not return to officiating duties until all outstanding debts are cleared.

“This difficult decision had to be taken unequivocally due to our unpaid allowances for 21 weeks, and we do not intend to return until all our outstanding debts are paid,” the group noted in the statement.

The Referees and Match Commissioners warned that the situation could compromise the integrity of the league, as financial vulnerabilities could expose officials to potential inducement, a development they are keen to prevent.

“We vehemently abhor any form of inducement and want to avoid it at all costs to maintain the integrity of the game,” the letter stated.

Despite the challenges, CRAMCOG maintained that they have carried out their duties this season with “alacrity and high moral integrity”.”

Concluding their message with an 18th-century proverb, they remarked, “An empty sack cannot stand upright”.

The Ghana Football Association has yet to respond to the boycott notice.
