The Youth and Development Chief of Aflao, Felix Akonta Akakpo, known traditionally as Torgbui Tenevi II, has donated sports equipment and cash to selected Senior High Schools in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.
The beneficiary schools are St Paul’s Senior High School, Aflao Senior High Technical School, Three Town Senior High School, Somé Senior High School, and Klikor Senior High School.
Each of the schools received one set of jerseys, two volleyballs, two handballs, and two basketballs.
To assist in the inter-school sporting competition and activities, he gave each school an amount of two thousand Ghana cedis, stopwatches, 116 medals, and 36 trophies.
During the grand finale of the Godigbe Football Gala and Inter-Circuit Games for boys, Torgbui Tenevi II also donated seventy trophies to the Ketu South Municipal Assembly.
The trophies were shared among ten educational circuits in the municipality, with each circuit receiving seven trophies to support their inter-schools games.
Meanwhile, construction works are currently ongoing on an astroturf football pitch with auxiliary facilities at Avoeme in Aflao.
Torgbui Tenevi II has also begun the construction of the Ketu South Municipal Sports Complex for basic schools at Yame in the municipality.
The sports complex, when completed, will comprise five football parks, two volleyball courts, one handball court, and one basketball court.
The project will also include dressing rooms, a perimeter fence wall, two boreholes, and access roads.
The project is expected to be completed by March 2027.
Shortly after his visit to the site ahead of the commencement of work, Torgbui Tenevi posted on his Facebook handle, saying the facility is expected to transform school sports in the municipality and help nurture young talents.
“I stood at the heart of Yame, overseeing the commencement of work on the Ketu South Municipal Sports Complex, a facility poised to revolutionize school sports in the municipality.
The initiative underscores my commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting physical education among schoolboys and schoolgirls,” he said.
He added that the project will serve as a platform to inspire students and encourage greater participation in sporting activities.
“As I surveyed the site, I engaged with educators, community leaders, and workers, emphasizing the project’s potential to shape future generations. The bulldozer cleared the land for state-of-the-art football parks, volleyball courts, and basketball courts designed to inspire excellence in school sports,” he added.
Torgbui Tenevi said the sports complex will serve as a catalyst for healthy competition, teamwork, and discipline among students.
“This complex will provide students with opportunities to develop their skills and pursue their athletic dreams. By investing in school sports, I envision a stronger and more vibrant community where young people thrive through sports and education,” he stated.
He expressed optimism that the project will empower the youth of the municipality and strengthen extracurricular activities in schools.
“The project reflects my broader aspiration to empower the youth of Ketu South and foster a culture of achievement and pride. As construction progresses, we expect the community to witness a transformative impact on local schools and holistic student development,” Torgbui added.
