Ghana’s Evonne Fatimah Britton has secured a place in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships after winning her heat at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The Ghanaian hurdler will now face Nigerian world record holder Tobi Amusan in one of the most anticipated races of the competition.

Home Crowd Rallies Behind Ghana’s Rising Hurdles Star

Britton delivered a strong performance in heat one to advance confidently to the final, delighting supporters at the packed stadium in Accra. Competing on home soil, the Ghanaian athlete will be aiming to secure a medal and possibly produce another standout performance in front of local fans.

Britton Continues Remarkable Rise in African Athletics

The 2026 season has already been historic for Britton after she broke Ghana’s national record in the 60m hurdles earlier this year in Germany. Her 7.99-second run at the ISTAF Düsseldorf meeting made her the first Ghanaian woman to run under eight seconds and placed her among the fastest African women ever in the event.

Tobi Amusan Arrives as Favourite for Gold

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan heads into the final as the athlete to beat, carrying an impressive record on both the African and global stage. The reigning world record holder stunned the athletics world with her 12.12-second performance at the 2022 World Championships and remains one of Africa’s most dominant sprinters over the hurdles.

Championship Final Expected to Deliver Thrilling Showdown

Athletics fans are eagerly awaiting the clash between Britton and Amusan, with the women’s 100m hurdles final expected to be one of the highlights of the championship. The contest will pit Ghana’s emerging star against Africa’s most decorated hurdler in a race that could electrify the home crowd in Accra.
