British Airways says people vaccinated against COVID-19 should be allowed to travel without any restrictions while people still waiting to receive a vaccine or those who cannot get vaccinated because of underlying health conditions should be allowed to go on holiday by showing proof of a recent negative COVID-19.

Chief Executive of the Heathrow-based airline, Sean Doyle briefed the media in an attempt to heap further pressure on the government to ease travel restrictions.

International leisure is currently banned until May 17 at the earliest, although a roadmap for the easing of travel restrictions is set to be revealed on April 12.

Divisions have allegedly formed between government ministers and those who want to restore basic freedoms as soon as possible and others who want to keep the borders closed indefinitely for fear of mutant virus variants.

Laying out the challenge ahead for the airline, Mr. Doyle said restarting international travel is not just about holidays but connecting thousands of friends and family members who have been split apart because of the border restrictions.
