Russia’s state atomic energy corporation, Rosatom, is spearheading efforts for the adoption of nuclear power as the foundation for the world’s green energy future.

Speaking at the opening of the 80th World Atomic Week in Moscow, Russia, Director General of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, emphasized Russia’s commitment to the development of partnership relations within BRICS and an extensive youth program as key strategies to promote nuclear energy globally.

Mr. Alexey Likhachev said Russia is working tirelessly to ensure that nuclear energy becomes the go-to solution for sustainable power.

“We thank the IAEA and Director General Rafael Grossi because these relations are developing with the agency, not only on the multilateral level but in our bilateral relations as well,” he added.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi gave assurance of the agency’s dedication to nuclear safety and ensuring that countries have access to nuclear power.

He said, “Nuclear safety and the observance of the highest security and safety standards will always be there. We will also be facilitating the access of nuclear energy for developing countries.”

World Nuclear Association Director General Sama Bilbao y León called for a united effort to triple global nuclear capacity by 2030, saying it would be a game changer.

She said, “It is truly a pleasure to bring together all the experts from all the key companies in all the key countries in the world to learn from each other and work together to advance forward in the nuclear industry.”

Russia’s nuclear industry is marking 80 years of major milestones in expertise and innovation in the field.

The World Atomic Week International Forum (WAW-2025) showcased Russia’s capabilities in nuclear technologies, with Rosatom at the forefront of advancements in additive and quantum technologies, nuclear medicine, nuclear power, and global logistics.

As part of Russia’s 80th anniversary of the nuclear industry, the official shipment of advanced VVER-1200 reactor pressure vessels for Power Unit No. 1 of El Dabaa NPP in Egypt and Power Unit No. 4 of Akkuyu NPP in Turkey took place in teleconference format as part of the opening ceremony.

These two reactors add up to the 250 reactors manufactured in Russia within the 80 years of the nuclear industry in the country.
