The Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX) has reported that in 2025, total traded value from spot and over-the-counter (OTC) trades exceeded GH¢1.8 billion, with over 78,000 metric tonnes of commodities exchanged.

The Exchange, which trades key agricultural products such as maize, soya, cashew, and rice through nine warehouses mainly located in the northern and middle belts of Ghana, highlighted its support for more than 50,000 farmers. This support comes through capacity-building programs and post-harvest loss reduction initiatives aimed at improving productivity and market access.

GCX also emphasized its enforcement of quality standards, including Ghana’s national aflatoxin limit of 15 parts per billion (ppb), to ensure safe and high-quality produce for both local and international markets.

The figures and achievements were presented during a strategic engagement with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MoTAI) on Thursday, 5th February 2026. The meeting brought together directors from various departments. Welcoming the GCX delegation on behalf of the Hon. Deputy Minister, Hon. Sampson Ahi, the Director of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), Mrs. Cynthia Djokoto, said the engagement was a priority for the Ministry to better understand the operations of the Exchange.

The GCX delegation, led by Chief Executive Officer Madam Evelyn Abaka, commended the Ministry for the partnership and briefed officials on the Exchange’s mandate, achievements, and challenges. Madam Abaka appealed for policy support to mandate key crops such as soya, sesame, shea, and cashew to be traded through the Exchange. She also requested support to expand warehousing and IT infrastructure to further strengthen the commodity market.

In his remarks, the Director of Trade Development, Mr. Kobena Ebo Quayson, assured GCX of MoTAI’s commitment to working closely with the Exchange and strengthening the Grains Committee to address policy issues affecting trade and industrialization.
