GBC has not been sold – Management

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has denied claims that the Corporation has been sold to Zoomlion, a private institution.

In a statement, the Director of Corporate Affairs of GBC, Mamle Asare said that the Corporation has never had any Transaction with Zoomlion as is being purported on Social Media and a section of mainstream media.

The statement explained that GBC has embarked on a Five-Year-Transformative drive with the objective of enhancing profitability and efficiency.

As part of the plan document, the Corporation is to create more channels for Commercial Broadcasting to increase its revenue base to enable it to compete favorable in the Media space.

It is in this light that GBC expanded partnership with KBL, the new partner with GBC in the Metropolitan Television concept, an existing partnership which started twenty years ago with media TVC.

The statement added that the partners have agreed to expand the relationship to include the use of the Akan language in broadcasting.

To this end, an MoU has been signed between GBC and KBL to use GBC’s channel to undertake broadcasting in the Akan language, while KBL will provide finance to support the collaboration.

The statement concluded that per the MoU, the partnership is to last for 10 years with a 2-year gestation period, which does not create any form of ownership for KBL.

It has also come to the notice of Management of GBC, that some persons without authority are interfering with the signals of the Corporation to broadcast the 2019 African of Cup of Nations’.

In a statement, GBC said it is an offence under its Act, section 14 A,  to tamper with the signals of the Corporation without authorization.

Management therefore cautions any individual or persons who intend or are intending to broadcast by interfering in the Corporation’s signals or illegally connecting into signals belonging to the Corporation without the requisite authority, to desist from such acts or risk prosecution.
