The Tema South District of the Power Distribution Service (PDS), will by the end of this year start replacing old prepaid meters with more than 45,000 new smart prepaid meters across its jurisdiction.

This is to correct defects the PDS has detected in the old prepaid meters.

The exercise will not incur any cost to the consumer.

The Tema South District Manager of the PDS, Madam Cynthia Bannerman, said this at a stakeholder engagement with Assembly Members in the Tema South District. It was aimed at giving first-hand information on the Company’s intended exercise to the Assembly Members.

Madam Bannerman said challenges such as error on meters, faulty prepaid meters, batteries, update issues and increase in energy theft among others compelled the PDS to take a decision on installing the new smart prepaid meters which will be more effective.

Assembly Members at the forum called on the PDS to ensure that the new meters do not create more problems.
